What Is Microneedling?

Target Stubborn Scars. Reveal Smoother, Clearer Skin.
If you’ve cleared your acne but are still struggling with the scars it left behind, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to live with them. At Kalon Skin & Wellness, our microneedling treatments are designed to help fade acne scars and restore your confidence with smoother, healthier-looking skin.
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a powerful treatment that creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin using fine needles. This process triggers your skin’s natural healing response and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin: the building blocks of smooth, resilient skin.
For acne scar sufferers, this is essential. Microneedling breaks down scar tissue while encouraging the growth of fresh, healthy skin cells; reducing texture, fading discoloration, and improving overall tone.
This is also an excellent treatment option for those wanting the benefits of age-management. The production of collagen and elastin target fine lines and wrinkles, promoting a more youthful complexion.

FAQs
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
A series of treatments is necessary to see optimal results. The number of sessions varies based on individual skin concerns. Typically, a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart yields optimal results. Improvements can be noticed within a week, with continued enhancements over several months as collagen production increases.
For those especially acne prone, we may suggest spacing treatments 4 weeks apart, with every other treatment being an acne peel.
WHAT DOES MY CONSULTATION LOOK LIKE?
We'll have you in to take a close look at your skin, chat about your current skin concerns, and develop a home care and treatment plan to best suit your goals. You can expect to spend between $300-600 on home care products at this consultation. While microneedling can offer great results, we want to set you up for success to achieve and maintain those results, which starts with your home care routine.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Microneedling has minimal downtime, but you can expect some short-term effects as your skin begins the healing and renewal process. Immediately after your treatment, it’s normal to experience redness, warmth, and a feeling similar to a mild sunburn. This typically lasts 24 to 48 hours, with most clients noticing a significant improvement in appearance by day two or three.
In the days following, your skin may feel tight, dry, or slightly rough as it goes through a light exfoliation phase. Some clients experience mild flaking or a “sandpaper” texture. This is part of the collagen remodeling process and usually resolves within 3–5 days.
To support optimal healing, we recommend:
-
Avoiding makeup and all skincare for the first 24 hours
-
Skipping workouts, steam rooms, and sun exposure for 48 hours
-
Using gentle, hydrating products as advised by your provider after the 24 hour mark
-
Wearing daily broad-spectrum SPF, even indoors after the 24 hour mark
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Microneedling is an excellent treatment for a wide range of clients, including:
-
Those with acne scars, texture issues, or post-inflammatory pigmentation after clearing breakouts
-
Clients seeking anti-aging benefits, such as reduced fine lines, improved firmness, and smoother skin
-
Individuals with dull, uneven skin tone, or enlarged pores who want a more refined, radiant complexion
It’s suitable for most skin types and tones, including sensitive and melanated skin; however, there are a few important considerations:
-
If you have active acne, open wounds, eczema, or psoriasis in the treatment area, you may need to wait until the skin is calm
-
Clients with autoimmune conditions (like lupus, scleroderma, or active flare-ups of inflammatory disorders) may not be good candidates unless cleared by a physician
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals are advised to postpone treatment
-
Treatment utilizing Accutane within the past year
-
If you're prone to keloid scarring, microneedling may not be recommended
-
Those with an allergy to stainless steel
At Kalon Skin & Wellness, we always conduct a thorough consultation and medical history prior to treatment to ensure your safety and help determine whether microneedling—or an alternative—is the best fit for your goals.
