Will this treatment hurt?
Dermaplaning does not hurt.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning immediately rejuvenates the skin by removing the top layer of skin cells from the stratum corneum (very top layer of the epidermis) along with vellus hair (peach fuzz.) It has been utilized in medical practices for over 40 years to prepare the skin for chemical peels and laser treatments. Dermaplaning increases the penetration of active ingredients in treatment room and home care products. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup application and is the go-to treatment to prepare for important occasions. Dermaplaning is a physical/mechanical exfoliation that is extremely safe when performed by a professionally trained skin care specialist utilizing the appropriate tools and practices for the service.
Is there any downtime?
You;re advised to refrain from active ingredients (retinals, AHAs, BHAs, and Benzoyl Peroxide) for 3-5 days pre and post treatment, as dermaplaning can cause slight skin sensitivity. Aside from that, sweating, wearing heavy makeup, and direct sun exposure is advised to be avoided for 24-72 hours post treatment. More detailed information is provided with your intake form.
I want to get dermaplaned for a special event! How should I plan this?
Although sometimes acne safe, those who are acne prone pose a risk for breakouts post-treatment. We highly recommend doing a "trial" 4+ weeks prior to your desired pre-event appointment.
Who should not get this treatment?
Contraindications include active infection, open wounds, allergy to stainless steel, or 10+ active acne breakouts. A consultation will confirm if the treatment is right for you.
Will dermaplaning make my hair grow back darker?
Since dermaplaning is essentially shaving (along with exfoliation benefits), it is not possible for this to alter the structure or function of the hair. A vellus hair only changes into a terminal hair due to hormonal changes. We do, however; recommend adding a facial wax onto your appointment if you have any darker (terminal) hairs. In the event that you do notice darker hairs regrowing after dermaplaning, this is due to us having removed an already terminal hair. It is simply regrowing as the type of hair it was pervious to your dermaplane appointment.
